Sebastian Cotofana, MD, PhD, PhD

Sebastian Cotofana, M.D., Ph.D., Ph.D., is recognized globally as the world’s leading anatomist in the field of facial aesthetics. His extensive research and detailed anatomic dissections have led him to become a revered international speaker and key opinion leader.

Professor Cotofana studied medicine in Munich Germany and then medical residency in Trauma Surgery. He then transitioned to anatomic basic sciences and research and attained two Ph.D. degrees. The first Ph.D. degree in Medical Sciences from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, and the second Ph.D. degree in Anatomy from Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria, achieved in 2015.

Professor Cotofana entered the world of anatomy as an Associate Professor of Anatomy at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. His dedication for anatomic research propelled him to New York’s Albany Medical College in 2017. The Mayo Clinic of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota, soon recognized his contributions, granting him a Full Professorship in the Department of Clinical Anatomy in 2023. He is now the CEO of Cotofana Anatomy Corp, a global anatomy academy, where he teaches basic and clinically applied anatomy to allied healthcare professionals worldwide.

In addition, Professor Cotofana is an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University in the Department of Plastic Surgery. He holds four honorary professorships, including at Queen Mary University in London, Pirogov University in Moscow, the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital in China, and the University of Medical Sciences in San José, Costa Rica. In addition, he holds three visiting professorships at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, in the Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, and at the University of Belgrade in Serbia.

Professor Cotofana is also a member of the Department of Dermatology at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and the Centre for Cutaneous Research at the Blizard Institute at Queen Mary University of London. Professor Cotofana’s contributions to scientific literature include over 300 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and online communications.
